The company she works for quickly responded by releasing a statement “This is an outrageous, offensive comment that does not reflect the views and values of IAC. Unfortunately, the employee in question is unreachable on an international flight, but this is a very serious matter and we are taking appropriate action.” the company said in a statement. Thirty-five women were, yesterday Thurs Dec 19, disqualified by the Kano State Hisbah Board from participating in the mass wedding organised and sponsored by the state government. Those disqualified included 19 divorcees said to have tested  positive to HIV and 16 others said to be pregnant. Altogether, at least 1, 111 divorcees and widows from the 44 local government areas in the state were joined in matrimony at the City Central Mosque during a brief but colourful ceremony.

The Famous 112 year old Apollo Theater in London yesterday was thrown into total chaos as the ceiling in the theater gave way during a major performance. The theater was packed full as people came out in the yuletide spirit to see the play 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time'. While performance was going on, cracking sound was first heard from the balcony and it progressed into the ceiling, and then came crumbling down on the people in the theater. Police say a total of 88 people were injured with seven of them in critical state. One person who witnessed the incident, Mr Anjarwalla said "I was in the upper circle with another family when, about 45minutes in, people started shouting and screaming. We thought it was part of the play".

Last Thursday, the Nigerian House of Representatives endorsed the report of its House Committee on Aviation, which had indicted Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, over the purchase of two BMW cars at the hefty sum of N255 million. PMNews reports that the report concluded that for approving cars that were not budgeted in 2013 and for an amount far above the approval limit of the ministry, Oduah had broken the law. It said the minister committed the breach by approving expenditure of over N643m for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to procure 54 vehicles this year. The House noted that her approval limit as a minister was N100m.

Popular retailer Target has just confirmed that a hack could have compromised the credit card information for up to 40 million customers that have shopped in its US stores between November 27th and December 15th of 2013. Target has also confirmed that the information stolen includes everything the thieves would need to be able to make fraudulent purchases with the credit card. That means that the customer name, credit or debit card number, the expiration date, and the CVV (the number on the back of the card used for verification purposes) has all been taken. This is notable in that many breaches only let out some of the information, keeping shoppers relatively safe, but in this case, the thieves have everything but the physical card itself. As one might expect, an investigation is underway, and Target says it is working with ”a leading” forensics firm to figure out the cause of the issue. Woolwich killers, Michael Adebolajo (left) and his friend, Michael Adebowale (right) have been found guilty of the murder of British soldier, Lee Rigby.  25 year old Rigby was attacked by t he Muslim extremists o n May 22 outside his military barracks in Woolwich South London. They first run the soldier down with their car while he was returning from an errand, then mutilated and nearly beheaded him in a crime that happened in broad day light. It took the jury only 90 minutes to come back with a guilty verdict. Adebolajo reportedly kissed the Koran and smiled as the verdicts were read but Adebowale didn't react. They will both be sentenced next month.

Beyidi Martins, the Commanding Officer of the Special Battalion enforcing the state of emergency in Mubi, Adamawa, said soldiers killed 12 gunmen who attacked Mubi Central Market on Wednesday. About 20 gunmen attacked bureau de change shops in the market, killing and injuring about 10 people while they stole an undisclosed amount of local and foreign currencies. The sign translator at Nelson Mandela's Memorial Service, who was accused of being fake , and making up his own signs, has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital, local media report.  Thamsanqa Jantjie's wife reportedly took him to a psychiatric hospital near Johannesburg for a check-up on Tuesday December 18th, and the doctors suggested that he be admitted immediately, Johannesburg's The Star newspaper reports.
