It is such a grave tragedy that Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi could be ending his banking career and public service with a disgrace. President Goodluck Jonathan is reported to be asking for Sanusi’s resignation, five months before expiration of his first term. I doubt if Dr. Jonathan will be able to muster enough votes in the Senate, in these very testy times, to endorse Sanusi’s sack, as the law requires. I will, therefore, ask the president to let him serve out his term, perhaps with a letter of stern rebuke, as a parting gift. Despite his acumen, intelligence and courage, the governor has sullied his legacy with his erratic behaviour and indiscretion. Even if Sanusi did not leak the letter he wrote to the president, his allegation that the NNPC had failed to remit $49.8b billion in oil receipts to the Federation Account between January 2012 and July 2013 is ridiculous.

Callistus Ewelike, a photojournalist with the News Agency of Nigeria & current official photographer of President Jonathan was reportedly shot at close range in front of his house in the Nyanya area of Abuja around 10pm on Monday January 13th. Callistus, who is attached to the State House, Abuja, was said to be on his way home from work when he was attacked. Sources in the area where it happened said two men, one on a bike and another standing were noticed in front of his house waiting for him. As Callistus made his way into his compound, the man standing by his gate walked up to him and shot him at close range on the neck. Both men fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Callistus was rushed to the National Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. This is the second time the NAN photographer and father or two would be attacked. Gunmen forced their way into his home late last year where they took his camera, laptop and other work tools.

In December, the BBA winner and actress tweeted that she had cancer (if you missed it, read it here ) and not much has been heard from her since then. At the time she was awaiting results that indicated she had breast cancer. It's been confirmed and she is currently undergoing treatment in a UK hospital. All the best to her!

According to a statement by Presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, Air Marshall Alex Badeh is the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing Admiral Ola Ibrahim. The news filtered in yesterday that he'd resigned but his media aide denied it. But according to a new report by  Punch, embattled national PDP chairman Alhaji Bamangar Tukur has really resigned. A senior member of the divided National Working Committee of the party, who spoke with Punch confirmed the news today and said Pres. Jonathan will inform the meeting of the National Caucus of the party tonight in Abuja about the development.

Daily Mail reports that 80 year old Iranian Amou Haji hasn't washed for 60 years because he believes being clean will make him sick, and his favourite food is rotten porcupine. To relax he likes to sit down and have a smoke, from a pipe packed with animal faeces. Mr Haji says he chose this way of life after going through some emotional setbacks in his youth and since then - perhaps unsurprisingly - he has become a bit isolated.
